Building a sustainable economy with 93 000 jobs to honour Mandela
September 2011,
Many South Africans do not have the privilege of earning a salary. With less than half of the South African population being regularly employed, the dire need for job creation is evidently clear. 93000 jobs for Mandela Day is therefore not only an initiative to honour Nelson Mandela, but aims to inspire individuals and businesses to create jobs for a sustainable future for all South Africans.
The approach Proudly South African (PSA), the founding partner of 93000 Jobs for Mandela Day is the following: to drive job creation by informing and mobilising all state institutions, businesses and citizens on how they can assist in creating 93 000 jobs for Mandela. The key to the campaign is spreading the message to buy local to create more jobs.
Primedia Outdoor and Media 24 have thrown in their weight, in support of this initiative as 93 000 Jobs for Mandela Day’s as founding media partners.
Primedia Outdoor have contributed outdoor boards for one month with a value exceeding R1 million. These boards are strategically situated to target individuals, businesses and government. The outdoor media company partnered with the Nelson Mandela Foundation leading up to Mandela Day hence partnering with and supporting PSA in this remarkable initiative was the next natural step for Primedia Outdoor.
Primedia Outdoor has some of the best sites in the country. The message displayed on the billboards will act as a constant reminder that everybody has the potential to play a role in creating job by buying local.
“The 93000 jobs for Mandela Day campaign is not only aimed at creating awareness, it is aimed at changing behaviour, at encouraging South Africans to play their part in job creation and at making a difference. By buying local, businesses, individuals and government can help to create jobs. You can purchase local products every time you shop. As a business, you can ensure a significant component of your procurement budget is allocated to locally produced goods. Also tell us about the jobs you have created in your business or as an individual on our Facebook page – by sharing success stories we can also act to mobilise others to do the same,” says Dalene du Preez, Executive Manager, Marketing and Communication at Proudly South African.
