Black business leaders honoured

The Black Business Quarterly Magazine (BBQ) held its annual BBQ Awards gala dinner at Emperor’s Palace this past weekend.
The awards aim to celebrate and showcase ‘the history and epic journey of South Africa’s black icons and organisations that have taken a major part in the developing black businesses.”
Dubbed Van Ryn’s BBQ Awards, this year’s ceremony marked the awards’ 10th anniversary, highlighting the transformation and progression of South Africa’s leaders. The awards also paid tribute those who spearheaded our economic transformation.
Categories comprised 10 categories open to individuals, black-owned and empowered companies and organisations in South Africa. The winners were announced to high profile guests that included CEOs, political leaders and media. Event sponsors included Absa, Jaguar, KPMG and Primedia Outdoor.
The Van Ryn’s BBQ Award winners for 2011 are:

- New Entrepreneur: Octavia Matshidiso Matloa, CEO of Mukundi Mining Resources
- New and Innovative Business: Landelahni Leadership Development
- Community Builder of the Year: Dr Morokolo Silas Sathekge, General Manager of Letaba Helen Frans Bursary Scheme
- Public Sector Visionary: Nkomotana Clifford Motsepe, Head of the Department Limpopo Department of Cooperative Governance Human Settlements & Traditional Affairs
- Best Established SMME: Bongi-M Construction (BMC)
- Corporate Social Investment: The Chaine Des Rotisseurs Foundation Trust
- Best Established Black Business Award: Fleet Africa

- Business Man of the Year: Commander Tsietsi Mokhele, CEO of South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA)
