It takes a village to raise a child

While most people were mulling over what to wear at this year’s Vodacom Durban July, Primedia Outdoor and The City of Ethekwini hosted a charity event to honour I Care Centre in Durban, as well as hand over gifts to the street children taken care of, by this charity organisation.
I Care is a non-profit organisation devoted to finding meaningful and sustainable solutions to the challenges of street children in South Africa and a ministry that promotes a Christian ethos. The I Care group is dedicated to giving street kids hope for changing their futures for the better.
Primedia Outdoor came on board with City of Ethekwini and contributed with school uniforms, food items and toiletries.
Jenni-Lyn Van Niekerk, I Care’s National Marketing Manager gave the audience a brief description of the kind of work I Care has been involved in and also thanked City of Ethekwini and Primedia Outdoor for their generous donations.
Councilor Bobby Dlamini played an integral part in making this initiative a success – keeping in line with the government’s mandate to assist people in need. The Councilor expressed his gratitude to I Care for their outstanding work and empathised with these children – who are often misunderstood and are forced to the streets due to dysfunctional homes and unbearable living conditions.“It takes a village to raise a child. This African saying truly describes what we stand for as a company and why we’ve decided to work with I Care. Their community work ties in perfectly with our vision of uplifting our youth,” said Seshnee Naidu, Primedia Outdoor’s Marketing Manager.
The municipality also pledged to continue working together with I Care and Primedia Outdoor in future community development projects, ultimately changing people’s lives a gift at a time.
