T20 Cricket treat for South Africans

October 2011,

October was a great month for cricket fans, with both Johannesburg and Cape Town hosting the T20 Cricket matches.

The Twenty20 World Cup is the international championship of Twenty20 cricket. The event is organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and comprises 12 teams in which the ten ICC members are automatically qualified and the remaining two spots are contested through the T20 qualifier matches.

According to Cricket South Africa, they have come up with an innovative concept for Australia to tour South Africa with a series of cricket matches that started on the 13th of October, ending in November.

“The Australian tour of South Africa 2011 is an international bilateral series being organised by South Africa. South Africa vs Australia 2011 consist of 2 Twenty20, 3 ODI and 2 Test matches to be hosted by South Africa between October and November 2011. The South Africa vs Australia 2011 bilateral series is a part of Future Tour Programs prepared by International Cricket Council (ICC). South Africa will host this bilateral series. “

In the first T20 encounter at Cape Town’s Newlands stadium, Australia beat South Africa, 147 runs for 5 wickets, with Shane Watson, scoring a half century that propelled Australia to victory in a nail-biting encounter.

The Proteas do not give up that easily and gave their Johannesburg fans a treat with a 3 wicket win against the Ausies in the second T20 match.

Unfortunately the rain stopped the first One Day International at the Supersport Park with Duckworth-Lewis determining the men from down under the winners. A belly-blow for die-hard fans of the SA squad but a fair result all things considered.

Primedia Outdoor hosted guests at all three matches, lending the home side heartfelt support with a cacophany of cheers and appropriate roars of encouragement throughout the trio of tournaments.

Stay tuned for more cricket action.
